Jamun Shots

Jamun Shots

Jamun Shots are here!

I went to Ahmedabad, India my home town earlier this year. I had the jamun shots on one of the night out with friends. It was fun. These shots are given in salt rimmed shot glasses. So yummm… anyone wants it?

Many of you may not know what is jamun. Jamun aka java plum are berries. They are oblong shaped similarly kalamata olives with dark purple to almost black skin. The flesh of this fruit is juicy and sweet and tart flavors but with a little aftertaste. You can find this fruit in India and it’s surrounded countries. Jamuns are high in vitamin A, C and other vitamins and antioxidants. Because of all the nutritional values, this fruit is used in many Ayurvedic treatments.

So, this is all the information about the fruit. I grew up eating jamuns. I have made smoothie, ice cream or just ate as it is with a little bit of salt. We don’t get to see jamuns here in USA. So, when I saw jamuns in frozen section of Indian grocery store, I had to get it. I couldn’t resist. For the longest time, I wanted to make the jamun shots and finally I made it today. I got almost the same taste as on one of those street carts back in Ahmedabad. Obviously, there has to be some difference in fresh and frozen. But overall, Yummm…

A good memory of back home.
