Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • All-Purpose Flour: 2 and 1/4 cups of flour. Spoon and leveled.
  • Cornstarch: 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of cornstarch makes cookies soft.
  • Baking Soda: 1 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon if you use unsalted butter. Skip it if you use salted butter. Salt brings out the flavors.
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons for much-needed flavor.
  • Softened Butter: 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks or 170gm) unsalted butter. Use softened room temperature butter. Do not use melted butter.
  • Brown Sugar: 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar. Brown sugar provides that classic chocolate chip cookie flavor and moisture. Using more brown sugar than white granulated sugar promises a chewier chocolate chip cookie!
  • White Granulated Sugar: 1/2 cup granulated sugar. White granulated sugar not only sweetens the cookies but it helps the cookie spread.
  • Egg: 1 egg adds structure, flavor, and lift.
  • Extra Egg Yolk: The extra egg yolk adds the necessary liquid to the cookie dough. It also adds chewiness and richness. This will make the cookies extra rich, soft, and dense.
  • Chocolate Chips: 1 and 1/2 cups(heaping) for each and every bite!

How to make Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Spoon and level the flour. Whisk flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt together.
  • Cream butter and sugar together. Please make sure butter is room temperature and softened. The butter needs to be cool but not melted. If the butter is warm, it won’t properly cream into the necessary light and fluffy texture.
  • Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Beat in the remaining wet ingredients.
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. At a low speed add flour and chocolate chips.
  • I personally like to refrigerate the cookie dough. But if you are in hurry, you can definitely bake the cookies right away.
  • Measure 2 tablespoons of cookie dough. The dough should yield you about 24 cookies.
  • Bake the cookies on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or pastry sheet in a pre-heated oven at 325 degrees. Bake for about 12-14 minutes or until slightly browned on the side.
  • This is the toughest part. Take it out of the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes or so. This will help cookies to cool down and solidify.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can make the cookie dough and chill it in the refrigerator for upto 2-3 days. When ready to bake, bring the dough to room temperature and proceed to step 6.
  • Baked cookies freeze well for up to 3 months.
  • Unbaked cookie dough balls freeze well for up to 3 months. When ready to bake, remove from the freezer and bake. You might have to bake for a minute or two longer since the dough is frozen.
  • Room temperature egg and egg yolk work best not only in this recipe but in any baking recipe. To bring the eggs to room temperature quickly, simply place the eggs in a glass of warm water for 5-10 minutes.
  • Use room temperature softened butter. Please dont use melted butter as it does not cream well with sugar. Again its a good practice to use room temeperature butter in any baking recipe.
  • Omit salt if you are using salted butter.
